Time – Sujata Venugopal

Shadows lengthening into the evening-harbingers of a dying day

Bringing home thoughts of all that remains to try, to do and to say.

Neath the blanket of ever growing, threatening, darkening shadows

An urgent need to embrace, to continue life’s journey bubbles up and grows.

Would that it were possible to hold back Time; to arrest impending death and decay

Having stayed Time; unfulfilled dreams, desires, wants & needs; at Its feet to lay.

Eternal truth whispers-no man nor woman nor child can arrest Times ebb & flow

Just grasp what’s left, do the yet to be done & keep life’s flickering lamp-aglow.

End swimming against the tide; against expectations, and the norms of the day

It matters not if others misjudged, if polite silence held back pithy replies to say.

No more why this not that; no more pitting own truths against them and theirs

Lay down disappointments, hurts, confusions & the weight of burdening cares.

Revel in the precious moments that remain in kinder, gentler, forgiving ways

Darkness begins to fade, glowing pink skies & rays of light usher in a new day.

Light & darkness; night and day allot times for all on earth, each and every one

Rejoice, live, and laugh; do this and that; meet and greet, until life’s dance is done.

Light and darkness is now no more.
