Walking down the memory lane…

(A conversation with Krishna Dasgupta)

1. When did you come to Canada ?

Ans: We came to Canada ( P.E.I) in the early seventies.

2. How was the Bengali community at that time?

Ans: In those days there were not many visible minorities, specifically Bengalies in Atlantic provinces. In P.E.I , besides Satadal and me, there was another Bangladeshi fellow named Dr. Islam. We were about twenty plus families in our Bengali community within Maritime provinces.

3. What are the changes that you find now in the community from the time you came?

Ans: We can’t compare what we had and what we have now. Our community is a lot larger now than before.

4. What are the changes of the present day that you wish you had before?

Ans: Earlier days in our lives lots of products from India were not available .Now all those Indian products are easily available in Halifax. I am happy about that.

5. What suggestion do you want to give to our present-day community people?

Ans: Our Bengali community is much larger than before. So, in this regard, we should work together and we should respect each others’ opinion and work together to make sure we remain united.
